Wichita Northwest DECA

Hello Fellow Teachers:

For the past two years our Wichita Northwest DECA Chapter, with the sponsorship of the Wichita Entrepreneurship Task Forcee2e accelerator (e2e)and Greater Wichita Partnership, have put on Entrepreneurship/Innovation competitions for grades 3-8 in the Wichita Public School System.  Participation doubled from year one to year two and we are hoping to do the same with our upcoming competitions.  As we are starting to see even 10 year old kids on Shark Tank, we decided to expand the competition to include grades K-2 as well.  We are excited to offer this opportunity to bring entrepreneurship and innovation to your classroom and we would be honored if you choose to have your class participate.

The program is called Innovation U and is led by three student members of the Wichita Northwest DECA Program.  Nathan George, Riley Johnson and Noah Birchfield are coordinating all of the activities for Innovation U.

The Three Levels of Competition:

Grades K-2:    Innovation Challenge (new this year)

Grades 3-5:     Innovation Rally

Grades 6-8:     Innovation Express

Due to the tremendous support of the Wichita Entrepreneurship Task Force and the Wichita Business community, the prizes have increased significantly for each level of competition.

Each competition will now have awards for the Top 5 places as shown below.

1st Place -       $500

2nd Place -      $250

3rd Place -       $125

4th Place -       $  75

5th Place -       $  50

*This award is to be presented to the teacher in the form of a gift card. Our intent for giving these prizes is for you, the teacher, to use the prize money to buy classroom essentials to help your students learn more about the principles of Entrepreneurship.

Competition Overview:

All three of these competitions will involve the reveal of an everyday product and each participating class will have opportunity to create new value by finding and developing new uses for the revealed product. Each class will develop a 3-minute pitch video of their creation utilizing the guidelines that are provided on the web site.  The everyday product will be revealed on January 9th, 2017 on the website listed below.

The website will also have a video describing the program along with even more detail describing each of the competitions.
